Earlier this week we looked at the first 5 of the top tech trends looking to hit the tech space in 2023.

Today, we continue our rundown of the most exciting tech and digital advances we can expect next year.

Top Tech Trends – 2023. Part 2.

Editable Nature.

Nanotechnologies will permit us to make changes to materials, plants, and other living things by editing them.  Gene editing technology will accelerate our capability to “edit nature” by altering DNA.  These technologies will allow us to create materials with new and advanced capabilities, such as water resistance and the ability to self-heal.

By being able to remove some genes and add in others, 2023 could herald an age where technology can correct DNA mutations, solve the problem of food allergies, or increase the health of crops, for example.

Quantum Progress.

Quantum computing uses subatomic particles to create new ways of processing and storing information. It’s a leap that’s expected to allow computers to operate a trillion times faster than the swiftest processors of today.

Currently, there is a worldwide race to develop quantum computing at scale.  Countries such as the US, UK, China, and Russia are pouring money into developing quantum computing technology.

These practices have caused some thinkers to worry that large-scale quantum computing could render current encryption practices useless. Nations that develop quantum computing at scale could break the encryption of other nations, businesses, security systems, and more.

Green Technology.

The climate crisis is one of the most pressing issues affecting our world today.

In 2023, it’s likely we’ll see continuing progress around green hydrogen.  Green hydrogen is a clean-burning source of energy that produces close to zero greenhouse gas emissions.

We’ll also see progress in the development of decentralised power grids.  Currently, our energy system is dominated by large gas and energy companies. Decentralised energy initiatives could help to democratise power across the world while decreasing carbon emissions at the same time.

Robots will become more human.

2023 will see robots become more human-like, in both appearance and capabilities.  It’s probable that these ‘robots’ will work in hospitality and care, such as concierges, bartenders, and companions for the elderly.  They may also perform functional tasks in warehouses and factories alongside human colleagues.

Progress in autonomous systems.

Business leaders will continue to make progress in creating autonomous systems.  Self-driving trucks and ships will become more commonplace, as will delivery robots. Warehouses and factories will implement increasing amounts of autonomous technology.

Sustainable Technology.

Sustainable technology will be prioritised in 2023.  As gadgets become more and more popular, we’ll begin to think more about the origin of their components and how we’re consuming them.

Huge digital services and entertainment platforms such as Spotify and Netflix have replaced more traditional methods of television and music consumption. These giants still run from huge data centers that consume vast amounts of energy.

Over the coming year, we’ll see consumers demand more transparency from supply chains. It will be more and more necessary for companies to be clear about the products and services they invest in, and that they are energy efficient and backed by sustainable technology.

2023.

Just like the years before it, 2023 will be yet another year of technological change and evolution. These are trends that businesses will have to lean into as we all demand more of the products and services available to us.  Green technology, data security, and automation are the overriding themes – and ones that will dictate the conversation over the coming year.
