Employment of software engineers is projected to grow by a quarter between 2016 and 2026. At the same time, Forrester projected that due to talent shortage, firms will pay 20% above market salary for quality software engineering talent.  That puts software engineers in a great position whilst job hunting and creates extra incentive to develop their skills further.

Software Engineer Jobs: Skills, Tools and Experience in Demand

HTML and CSS are a standard for front-end developers; backend developers will know languages like PHP, Ruby on Rails, Python, SQL or .NET. Javascript can be applied in both so it’s great to be native in it. You should have a readily available portfolio as well as code examples on Github profiles. Having experience working in Agile/Scrum environments can be a great bonus point.  Javascript frameworks in high demand include ReactJS, AngularJS, Backbone, Ember.
