The FoodTech industry is booming. Startups are bending over backwards to find long-lasting solutions to food problems. From smarter farming and reducing food waste to easier food orders and nutrition advice. Customers never had it so good, and FoodTech companies are making a real difference to our lives. Here is a list of the most disruptive FoodTech companies.
Feedr
If you’ve ever had to order food for an office meeting, then you’ll know how much of a painful experience it can be. Not only that: the traditional sandwiches, crisps and sausage roll options can be very uninspiring and unimpressive; especially if you are catering to clients.
Feedr is one of the foodtech companies born to counter all of these problems through delivering exciting food to your office. The platform removes all of the hassles of ordering food for meetings, events and employee lunches. It provides you with a selection of independent caterers with ethical and sustainable practices.
Giki
The second of our food companies was created for those of us who are conscious of where our food comes from. Giki is a mobile app that “informs you about the products you buy and the companies you buy them from”. By scanning the barcode of your food or drink products, the app provides you with information about its sustainability, carbon footprint, if it has any additives, if the packaging is recyclable and details about its origins.
It’s really clever and very addictive! You’ll find yourself scanning everything in your cupboards at home and everything in the aisle of the supermarket. But that’s what it’s all about; helping you to make better buying decisions and filling your cupboards with better products and produce.
And it isn’t just for food and drink. You can scan everything from bleach bottles to hair gel.
OLIO
The third of our foodtech companies was created to help address the food waste problem. OLIO connects people with their neighbours and with their local shops so that surplus food and other items can be shared, not thrown away. It’s like Gumtree for food, where you can simply snap what you want to give away, upload it to the website and wait for somebody to ask for it. It could be food nearing its sell-by date, spare home-grown vegetables, bread from your local baker or the groceries in your fridge when you go away.
Between 33-50% of all food produced globally is never eaten. OLIO is using technology and a global movement for sustainability to help bring that number down.
Farmdrop
The fourth of our foodtech companies is a farm-to-table food delivery service. It allows you to buy exceptional meat, fish, veg and produce directly from the farmers and producers. By using cutting-edge technology and apps that make ordering, processing and delivery super-efficient, Farmdrop is able to provide producers and farmers with a much bigger share of profits over supermarkets.
Wriggle
Locals will probably know the fifth of our foodtech companies. If you live in Bristol, Brighton or Cardiff, saving money eating out has never been easier. Wriggle collaborates with your city’s best independent bars and restaurants to curate over 100 special discount deals every single day.
Wriggle started as a way for restaurant owners to shift surplus produce at a discounted rate to customers looking for a bargain. It is now a marketing platform for new and existing businesses, providing great social media content as well as hundreds of daily deals and events.
Exploring your city has never been so delicious!
Vita Mojo
The last of our foodtech companies, Vita Mojo, has taken personalisation to another level. Using cutting edge technology, Vita Mojo allows you to eat for your own individualised needs, control your macros, calories and quantities for a meal that is right for you, every time. It’s Premium produce cooked to maximise nutrition.
They have teamed up with delivery partners so that you can order online and have it delivered to your door; home or office.
